Far North Region: MINAT Boss Calls for Respect of Électoral Laws

Far North Region: MINAT Boss Calls for Respect of Électoral Laws

The Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji Paul, has appealed for the strict respect of the law governing the electoral process in Cameroon, requesting political activists to exercise a spirit of responsibility in the face of the October 12 presidential elections. He was speaking during a security evaluation meeting in Maroua on October 1, 2025, which had the presence of administrative authorities, security forces and ELECAM officials of the Far North. After a warm welcome accorded by Governor Midjiyawa Bakary, the minister continued with an evaluation of the security situation and state of preparedness of the region for the elections. Quoting from President Paul Biya, Minister Atanga Nji prescribed political maturity to prevail in the ongoing electoral process. This task trickles down to leaders of political parties who are expected to abide by the rules and regulations of the elections by making use of « the observer’s guide and the legal framework ». They are expected to respect state institutions and seek the attention of administrative authorities in case of difficulties. They should promote republican values, including peace, living together and national harmony. The MINAT boss called on administrative authorities to put in place the necessary disposition for credible elections with strong vigilance to overcome impending challenges. The minister insisted that the Constitutional Council remains the only organ responsible for the proclamation of election results; thus, he condemned people who are lawlessly claiming this function. Upon assessment, the MINAT boss noted a stable security atmosphere in the Far North, calling on the authorities to ensure that peace continues to prevail before, during and after the October 12, 2025, presidential election.
